Super League XXVII – Sunday 5th June Matches Tips and Betting Preview

The Super League weekend concludes on Sunday afternoon when the two remaining matches of what has already been a very good round of action take place on a day where four teams go in search of two valuable points.

There is no TV coverage of these matches which means that if you haven’t got a ticket to either of them then you will need to rely on either the radio commentaries or the social media updates in order to stay in touch with the action.

Hull KR vs Salford Red Devils (15.00)

One of the two matches sees a fading Hull KR side playing host to a very much improving Salford Red Devils outfit in a game which might just be pivotal to the season of both teams as we move deeper into the second half of the campaign.

Hull KR go into this one having lost their last four in all competitions and worryingly for the Robins they have only put 12 points on the board in those matches combined. Injuries to all their creative players have not helped them and while Jordan Abdull remains out for this match they could have Mikey Lewis available, although how up to speed he’ll be remains to be seen. He’ll need help either way and it will be second string players in some key areas for the home side. Salford go into this match having won their last two outings, against a Leeds Rhinos side who have caught fire since that match and Castleford Tigers last time out. While injuries haven’t helped Hull KR, it can’t be a coincidence that their form has tailed off since Tony Smith made the strange announcement that he is leaving the club at the end of the season. That means this Hull KR era is about to end but under Paul Rowley the Salford Red Devils one is just beginning. We should highlight they have lost their last seven matches away from home this season but in their last two it took a last minute Wigan try to beat them and they only lost to St Helens by four points. I sense Salford are getting it right now and I’m not convinced Hull KR are so I’ll take the visitors at a value price here.

Wakefield Trinity vs Hull FC (15.00)

The other match on Sunday afternoon sees a struggling Wakefield Trinity side looking to ease their relegation fears when they welcome Hull FC to this part of Yorkshire. The visitors are looking t consolidate their spot in the play-offs.

Hull FC have played some decent rugby in recent times with St Helens the only team to have beaten them in their last five outings. That is in stark contrast to Wakefield who head into battle here having lost their last seven in all competitions. Wakefield won’t need to go too far to see where they need to improve. The only time they have scored more than a dozen points in this seven game losing streak was when they lost at Toulouse Olympique and even then they only scored 14. They need to get over the opposing line more. In fairness their defence has rarely been taken apart so if they can get over the try line they could turn their form around. That won’t be easy against a Hull FC who are aggressive in defence and powerful down the middle. I was tempted to take Hull FC to cover the handicap here but Wakefield is one of those places where you just want to win and Trinity aren’t beaten easily here too often. I’ll leave this one alone.
