Royal London One Day Cup 2022 – Tuesday 23rd August Matches Tips and Betting Preview

The final day of the group stage of the Royal London One Day Cup comes along on Tuesday and incredibly there are still 11 teams fighting for the six spots in the knockout stages so we are set for a very exciting day of cricket.

Unfortunately given what is on the day there is no TV coverage of any of these matches so to follow all of the action we are reduced to the county streams, although in the main they are all very good so it isn’t too bad a compromise.

Group A

The big match in Group A comes from Hove where a place in the semi-finals is on the line as Sussex host Middlesex. The winner will skip the quarter finals on Friday and host a team in the last four next Tuesday. The losers will probably still make the quarter finals but might well need results to go their way and then will need to go on their travels in it. That will be the case if Leicestershire win their final match. That is at home to Durham and if they win that they will host a quarter final on Friday. If Leicestershire lose then the door will be open for Warwickshire to make it through. They will need to beat Somerset in order for that to happen. The other match sees Nottinghamshire hosting Surrey at Welbeck with the Outlaws still having a chance to qualify but need Leicestershire and Warwickshire to lose.

Group B

Top spot is yet to be decided in Group B too. Hampshire are in control of their own destiny and know that a win against Yorkshire at Scarborough will see them bypass the quarter final and play host to someone in the semi-final next week. Yorkshire know only a win in that match is likely to be enough to keep them in the tournament. Lancashire have guaranteed themselves a knockout match and that will be a semi-final should Hampshire lose and they win away to Kent. Kent will qualify if they win and Yorkshire lose so there is plenty on that match as well. If Yorkshire and Kent get turned over the door will be open for Glamorgan if they can win at Worcestershire. The other match sees two sides who play their last white ball game of the season at Wantage Road when Northamptonshire host Derbyshire.

I’ll go with the one bet which comes in the huge clash down at Hove where I expect Sussex to get the better of Middlesex in the battle for the semi-final spot. I think Sussex will be confident going into this match. They have played some excellent cricket in this tournament. They have only lost to Nottinghamshire and Warwickshire this term and they are both decent sides. With Sussex going nowhere fast in the County Championship their season is basically at stake in this one and three wins on the bounce heading in means they should have plenty of confidence.

Middlesex come into this match off the back of a defeat and worse than that they have lost their leading wicket taker for the season in Umesh Yadav who picked up an injury in the defeat to Gloucestershire last time out. He is going to be a huge loss for an attack that is already without Tom Helm, Toby Roland-Jones, Blake Cullen and a host of batters. Sussex are missing players but they’re not missing anyone they’ve had during this competition and that along with home advantage makes me think they’ll come through this at even money.
