Digiprove seal

This extended weekend of action in the Sky Bet Championship continues on Saturday afternoon when another seven matches take place up and down the country and as the table begins to sort itself out the points are desired by all on show.

The Auld Firm match gets the TV treatment on Saturday so we don’t actually have a TV game to enjoy here. That means if you are not going to one of the games you’ll need to get updates in the usual places.

Saturday’s fixtures are as follows: (All 3pm)

Blackburn Rovers v Bristol City

Luton Town v Wigan Athletic

Millwall v Cardiff City

Norwich City v Coventry City

Preston North End v Birmingham City

Rotherham United v Watford

Swansea City v Queens Park Rangers

Big Matches

The leaders Sheffield United are not in action on Saturday afternoon so Norwich City get the chance to go to the top of the table for the first time this term when they play host to Coventry City. If they fail to get the job done then Watford will be able to move to the summit but they will need to go away to Rotherham United and pick up three points. Blackburn are the other team who can end the day on top of the table but they will need to build on their midweek win when they host Bristol City.

Best of the Rest

QPR are on a good run at the minute and they’ll be out to continue their positive form when they head across the Severn Bridge to take on Swansea City. After a slow start to the season Luton Town look like they are finding themselves again and they host promoted Wigan at Kenilworth Road while the other two matches sees Millwall welcoming former player Steve Morison and his Cardiff City side to The New Den and Preston North End looking to equal the EFL record for clean sheets to start a season when they go after their eighth in succession when they host Birmingham City.

Betting

I’ll go with the one bet over the course of the day and that comes in the form of my own side Luton Town who I’m surprised we can get a decent price with draw cover on them to beat Wigan Athletic. I mentioned in my preview for the season that I expect Luton to be challenging for promotion this season and despite a slow start I still believe that, and their last three matches we have seen why. They look like the Luton of last season and that is a good side, especially on their own patch.

Wigan have started life very well on their return to the Championship. They have only lost one match and that came against Burnley last weekend but it was pretty emphatic. To their credit they bounced back with a draw against West Brom in midweek but for all they have done well so far this season they have only beaten an average Birmingham side. I expect Luton to continue to improve after a tough start to the season where they have played the current top two and two others in the top 10. That can start with a win here.
