Digiprove seal

The Sky Bet Championship season continues with a first midweek set of matches this week and they get underway with seven fixtures on Tuesday evening. That should have been eight but the pitch problems Coventry City are experiencing has put paid to one of them.

One of the seven remaining matches will be live on TV for us in the UK to enjoy with the other seven being available via the club websites although it will cost £10 to be able to watch if you are not going to one of the games.

Tuesday’s fixtures are as follows: (7.45pm unless stated, UK TV in brackets)

Birmingham City v Watford

Bristol City v Luton Town

Burnley v Hull City

Norwich City v Huddersfield Town

Preston North End v Rotherham United

Swansea City v Millwall

Queens Park Rangers v Blackpool (8pm – Sky Main Event & Sky Football)

Big Matches

We have to wait until the final match of the evening for the televised action to come around but when it does two sides who have made up and down starts to the season will be in action when QPR play host to Blackpool. The leaders Blackburn Rovers don’t play until Wednesday evening so Hull City and Watford have the chance to move to the top of the table for 24 hours. The Tigers head across the Pennines to take on Burnley while Watford head to Birmingham City, who themselves have starts the season well.

Best of the Rest

I don’t think too many people will have expected to see Norwich City at the bottom of the table at any point this season but that is the point they find themselves in heading into the latest set of matches. They will look to climb off the foot of the division when they welcome Huddersfield Town to Carrow Road. Millwall sit fourth heading into the evening and they head to Swansea City who will be looking to build on their first win of the season at the weekend. Two sides without a win so far meet at Ashton Gate when Bristol City host Luton Town while Preston North End will look to consolidate their good start to the campaign when they host Rotherham United at Deepdale.

Betting

Norwich City might be bottom of the table but Dean Smith doesn’t think his side have played that badly and I think we have to take him at his word. The xG numbers suggest his team aren’t doing a lot wrong, they just need to find a clinical edge but with the likes of Teemu Pukki and Todd Cantwell in the side you have to think things will click at the top end of the pitch soon and it could very well come against a Huddersfield Town side who are nothing special in my eyes.

Huddersfield lost out in the play-offs at the end of the previous campaign and have looked ordinary since then. We know they have lost their manager and some key players in that time and while they picked up a win over Stoke at the weekend, you sense that match would have gone the other way had Stoke converted a penalty at 0-0. Even in that 3-1 win Huddersfield lost the xG battle, as they have in their other two matches this term. They are there for someone to put them away and I think Norwich are the ones to do it.
